The hospital is nationally recognised for its expertise in trauma management and is a major transplantation centre for livers, kidneys, bone, cartilage, and corneas. The Princess Alexandra has recently undergone a major expansion which resulted in the doubling in size of the emergency department, a roof-top helipad and 30 new inpatient beds for people requiring less than 48 hours of care, in order to better serve the ever expanding southern region of Brisbane.
